Breeders terms
We may occasionally have something we wish to put out on 'breeders terms' .
BREEEDERS TERMS
Means placing a dog out with someone else with a view to breeding with it later,it may also include the dog being shown either by the person or the breeder and this is somehting that is agreed to by both parties. Breeders terms means only the breeder breeds with the dog, not the co 'owner'. Often a dog placed on terms is one the breeder may think is viable in the gene pool gut not glamourous enough for the show ring or may have a colour that isnt 'accpetable' but genetically is still very usefull for breeding the correct colours (such as a Merle, or over marked harlequin).
This gives the dog a good home but allows the breeder to have access and is often good for the dog if the breeder has many , and the dog wil get that normal family life. It also gives the co owner a grown trained dog ,and often at no cost, for their agreement to help the breeder .
Money may or may not changed hands depending on the breeder. Again that is something that is to the discretion of the breeder.Be sure you want to go down this track, if a bitch, the breeder will likely want 1 or 2 litters from the bitch ( it shouldnt be an ongoing thing, thee is no need to keep breeding the one dog over and over and over) and may insist the dog come back to them for the litter, which ist a bad idea as they have all the skill, set up, and better they have the responsibility of all this than you, and this is no time to get sentimental about not wanting the dog to leave home. If you are practiced in whelping then by all means you can come to an arrangement, but whelping pups and caring for them is not how it is in the movies! so you may think you want to have a cute litter at your place, believe me it isnt as simple as that.
if you work alot then you cannot raise a litter properly , so be aware of all this before you decide to aquire a bitch on terms. so donot let the breeder down by changing your mind midstream about the arrangement . you may be asked to sign a contract outlining responsiblities and expectations on both sides which is a good idea.
Male dogs on terms are nore not so complicated , the dog is for the use of the breeder for a couple of studs, sometimes indefinately. However the bitch usually comes to the dog and you do very little except make the dog available to the breeder, when needed. this means that a breeder will want to access the dog specifically, as timing is critical when a bitch is in season. so bear this in mind when agreeing to taking a male dog on terms.
